Concert Bands

At the heart of the music programs at St. Amant High School are the concert bands. St. Amant is fortunate to be one of only a handful of truly successful band departments in Louisiana with three performing ensemble recognized at the state level. Each of the three bands, The Wind Symphony, The Symphonic Band, and The Concert Band, perform literature which not only challenges the students to grow musically, but also prepares them for a successful and rewarding band experience.

All of the concert bands at St. Amant have consistantly placed in the top of their respective classifications at LMEA district and state contests and festivals, and have represented St. Amant High School at performance venues throughout Louisiana and across the nation.

2003 G rand NAI Performance
The Wind Symphony performed at the prestigious Grand NAI in Chattanooga in 2003. The Wind Symphony was given the award for best brass section at the festival, and Zach Garcia was awarded the soloist award for his bassoon performance in Red Cape Tango. The Wind Symphony finished 2nd overall at the GNAI, missing first place by a mere 1.3 points.

2002 Loyola Invitational
The Wind Symphony was one of three bands in Louisiana invited to perform at the Loyola Invitational Band Festival in March of 2003. The band was featured in a performance at the university, and was afforded the opportunity to work with composer, David Gillingham.

Old State Capitol Performance
St. Amant High hosted Lafayette High's Band at the Louisiana Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge. Widely regarded as two of the premiere high school band programs in the state, the two groups came together for a very memorable and moving performance for a standing room only audience. After the concert, the students and directors from each school traveled back to St. Amant High school for a social.

As a result of this event, the band was featured in the Baton Rouge Morning Advocate in an article touting the effects of positive peer pressure on the lives of teenagers.

Disney's Magic Music Days
Members from all three bands combined to forma a huge concert band of over 150 for a special performance at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida three times since 2000. The bands performed to a very receptive audience on the Future World West Stage in the Magic Kingdom, and spent the next three days enjoying the excitement of the theme parks.

Carnegie Hall
In 2006, the Wind symphony performed on stage in Carnegie Hall in New York city as part of the national band and orchestra festival. The band and its members spent a week in New York City sightseeing and enjoying the New York City culture.
